The PDN Goes To PrisonPosted by Darryl Schoon in Untagged |
We just returned from Dunkirk, NY where PDN member Cherie Clark (Dr. Cherie Clark to her peers) arranged for us to see her Shock Incarceration program in action. Over the last 20 years, the program has graduated over 37,000 inmates, significantly lowered recidivism rates, and has saved the state of New York over $1 billion.
We watched as a group of inmates graduated from the six month intensive program as a newly arrived group of inmates watched. This blog entry cannot do justice to what we saw. Combining the princicples of Buckminster Fuller, the 12 Step Program and superlearning techniques, Shcck Incarceration transforms prison sentences into an opportunity to successfully rebuild damaged lives. For more information see the US Dept of Justice report at http://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles/shockny.pdf
My outlook tends towards the cynical. In this instance, it was turned inside out and upside down. Anything is possible. I just saw an example of what is possible.
