Shock Incarceration and AwePosted by Darryl Schoon in Untagged |
Fellow PDN member Dr. Cherie Clark sent this updated information on Shock Incarceration: .. the 80% rate for GED is an old figure, as I train more and more staff in Accelerated Learning Techniques, the rate has increased to an average of 96% and at Lakeview for the past two tests, it has been 100% passing. It has been 100% in the other facilities as well, still in just 12 hours a week, for six months. 260 hours of total academics, by the time pre-testing and final testing is done.
Also, the sign says, "LEARNING IS TAKING PLACE" [ I incorrectly had it as LEARNING IS HAPPENING]a reminder that our failures really are our best teachers.
As background for you, we first learned this expression from Drill Sgt. Dan Flynn who came to train our dill instructors in the mid-90's. Every time there was a failure in his class, he cheerfully led everyone in the chant, "Learning is …" and they would respond "… Taking Place!" Now it's DI Bennis who carries on that tradition with our new jacks in reception.
Shock Incarcertaion’s slogan LEARNING IS TAKING PLACE is a helpful key in seeing the world. Bucky’s view that mistakes are part of the learning process is a far better way to understand what is happening.
Mistakes are happening and LEARNING IS TAKING PLACE.
As the present world crumbles, new and better systems will take their place. Shock Incarceration is one such system. I am in awe in what has been accomplished. There is hope and more than I had thought.
