Tropic ThunderPosted by Darryl Schoon in Untagged |
The film Tropic Thunder is a metaphor for what is about to happen to America. The film’s story revolves around a group of Hollywood actors who find themselves involved in a war they did not expect or can understand. As I watched the movie, it occurred to me that Americans will soon find themselves in a similar situation. Americans today are singularly unprepared for what is about to happen. For years, the US has lived on credit and denial and the ending of credit will force the end of its denial.
The tragedy is that Tropic Thunder is a movie but what will happen to the US is very real. Unemployment in California is now at a 12 year high and it is estimated that California’s Unemployment Fund will run out of money by March 2009. The crisis is only beginning.
As a result of the conflict in which they found themselves, the Hollywood actors in Tropic Thunder once again rediscovered who they were. It will be fortunate if Americans are so lucky.
